Wherever you are on your WineShop at Home journey, there will be wonderful, victorious times, and there will be times that you want to scream into your pillow.
Trust me. I’ve been in this business for eleven years, and I know. This year was a SCREAM inducing year for sure!
There are times when I feel like my business has come to a dead stop on the freeway, and it is so frustrating. I thought I had left bumper to bumper traffic behind when I moved out of Los Angeles. My stalls normally happen when I’ve been traveling or had big family events pop up, like maybe a move. Those are the times when I stop touching base with my customers, my consultants and my team leaders. I hate it, but it happens. I could look at an empty book of business and quit or, I can….
Get Back in the Groove with Short Busts of Activity
No matter what business you’re in, when family needs your attention, family comes first. That’s just the reality of life – because without the people we love, what’s the point of being in business, really?
Right now, I’m getting ready to move and everything seems like it’s going nuts in my family life. On top of that, I have to get a tenant settled into my house and I’m dealing with two other properties that I have to care for from a distance and nothing is going right, or smooth or on time. Not to mention that I have to get two boys, a dog, and my husband packed up and ready to ship out.
Whew! It’s a lot. And when times like this roll around, I feel like there’s no way I will ever have enough time and focus to get it all done. So instead of kicking myself about it, I pull myself out of overwhelm by investing small bursts of energy to get manageable tasks done.
A small task might be…
- Spend 15 minutes calling all the hosts. I have coming up this month to see how they’re doing and keep them on track.
- Send emails to my team members to let them know that I’m still alive and see if they’re dealing with any major roadblocks I can help with. To let them know I care even if I’m not 100% there.
- Make sure that my WineClub members are loving their wine.
Within about a week of these small bursts of activity, things seem to get back on track. The challenge sometimes can be simply releasing myself from the guilt I feel of having so many things to do in so little time!
Book, Sell, Recruit
If you’re dealing with overwhelm in your business – and at some point you will, even if it’s not today – just remember that you’re not alone. It’s very normal, and we all go through it!
Something to keep at the forefront of your business goals is that, at its core, your business only really needs 3 things in order to function:
- Your business needs you to book tastings.
- Your business needs you to sell wine.
- Your business needs you to recruit consultants.
Book, sell, recruit. Make that your motto and you will excel… even if your world is spinning out of control.
