Okay, caveat: If you went to business school, know someone who went to business school, are about to go to business school or teach at a business school, please know that I am NOT advocating that people don’t go through advanced schooling in this arena if they want to. All I’m saying is that WineShop at Home is an awesome and inexpensive way to dip your toe into the business world… and I can’t deny that when you dip that toe, you might decide the water feels fine and dive in whole-heartedly!
Let me just give it to you straight: WineShop at Home fosters an entrepreneurial spirit. People who worked and trained with WineShop have gone on to incredibly successful business ventures after receiving our training because they learned leadership, management, budgeting, sales, presentation and interpersonal skills.
I’ve seen WineShop consultants go on to start their own businesses, purchase other businesses and join larger corporate companies after working with us, to great success. And many of them leaned on their WineShop at Home skills like someone might lean on a business degree from such-and-such prestigious university. Just sayin’.
If You Don’t Want to be Another Cog in the Wheel…
I should make a distinction: I don’t think most people don’t go to business school to learn how to run their own business. They go to learn how to work successfully in someone else’s. There may be really important skills involved in that educational training, but those lessons are not going to teach you how to be an entrepreneur.
A risk-taker. A completely independent creative thinker. A boss.
So before you go and drop hundreds of thousands of dollars to learn how to be a cog in someone else’s wheel, consider joining a direct sales business to see if you prefer calling the shots yourself. And don’t get me started on the people skills you learn in a direct sales career if you take it to the top.
Some people need the structure of a full time job. For others, that’s never going to be fulfilling.
Use These Skills for the Rest of Your Life
I have a consultant who’s always dreamed of opening a wine store. She decided to try WineShop at Home to find out if she liked being in the wine business. She’s doing so well now that I don’t know if she’ll ever leave to open up her dream shop, but you can bet that her experience in the industry has prepared her well for the next venture, should she choose to go in that direction.
I have another consultant who was recently recruited to run a tasting room. Another was working full time in special education and started her WineShop business to make ends meet. She finally worked up the nerve to quit her day job and make wine her career. As soon as she sent out her resume, she got a great offer from a wine company… and that was that.
