Conference was ah-mazing. Really. The training was top notch, the venue was to die for, and people left feeling inspired to hunker down and focus more on their business so they could bring in more money, step more fully into the WineShop lifestyle and change lives.
And by the way, I’m one of those people, too!
But here’s the worrisome thing that I see happen year after year with the WineShop at Home conference: people leave feeling totally pumped up and enthusiastic and then they go back home and… don’t do anything.
Sound familiar?
The Post-Conference Trap
Here’s what it usually looks like: you come home, you’re enthusiastic about your business, motivated to get things going and make a bunch of fantastic promises about what you’re going to do next.
But you don’t keep any of your promises.
Time goes by and you don’t take action. Instead, you go right back into the comfortable little bubble you’ve been living in for the last however long.
These are the same traps that so many of us fall into after New Years’ Eve. We tell ourselves that we’re going to work out more, we’re going to be nicer to our spouse, we’re going to give up smoking, whatever. But the minute things get difficult, painful or uncomfortable, we go back our old habits and justify them to ourselves (and we are all oh-so-good at justifying things that we shouldn’t be doing!).
Use Conference to Your Advantage
At the same time, there are people who come to conference, meet people, see the incredible things that other WineShop at Home consultants are making happen, and realize that they can do it, too.
Something deep inside them stirs and they think, “Oh my gosh, I can have more! I can do this – there’s really no difference between me and Diane Nozik!” Then they put the work in and their lives start to change.
So what’s the difference between the people who fall into the conference trap and the people who go home and actually make change happen?
Effort. Commitment. Desire.
Being successful is a choice. Okay, sure, some people might just be born with an innate ability as a salesperson – whatever, that’s certainly not me. For most of us, it’s a choice. For me it was certainly a choice.
We All Have to Work for It
One of the biggest misconceptions people have about me as a leader is that I don’t really have to work for my position and I want to emphasize how completely incorrect that is – as one of the top leaders in our company, you need to know that I still earn the trips on my own. I still lead tastings, recruit new consultants, follow up with my hosts and push myself out of my comfort zone.
The wonderful thing about that is it means that I’m no different from you. I’ve just been at it longer! You have the exact same ability that I do to create an abundant business.
So go out there and do it! Take what you learned at conference, take that excitement and do something with it. Be the change!
