“At the end of the day, it’s not about what my goals are. It’s about what we’re trying to do to move forward as a team.”
-Heather Sherbert
One of the most incredible things about running a WineShop at Home business is the amount of personal growth that happens along with the business growth.
In fact, one might say that your business grows just as quickly as you do!
Heather Sherbert is no stranger to that phenomenon. “It really took a mindset change. Not comparing myself to other people in the business but deciding what I wanted MY business to be,” she said.
And it must have worked, because on July 30, 2015, Heather became a WineShop at Home Team Leader. We’re so happy for Heather – and as it turns out, she has some words of wisdom to share about her journey.
A Big Change of Plans
When Heather initially started her WineShop business, she didn’t exactly intend to get promoted. “I was doing it as a way to practice public speaking,” Heather said. “I have a full time day job, and I thought it would be a good way to expand my skillset.”
Heather explained that she used to get so nervous when speaking in front of people that her hands would shake.
“I figured if the tasting groups were maxed out at 20 people it was a good parallel to the type of speaking I do in my day job. I also enjoy wine, so I thought it would be a great way to learn about wine along the way.”
As Heather got more comfortable speaking in front of groups, the idea of going for Team Leader began to seem more realistic and appealing. In January of this year, she finally decided to go for it.
“I spoke to my team members to figure out what their goals were, making sure that as a team, we were ready for me to go for Team Leader. I knew I couldn’t do it all on my own since I worked full time. If your team isn’t willing to support you getting there, it’s a lot harder to succeed.”
A Team Effort Yields Big Results
Six months later Heather was promoted to team leader, thanks to some brilliant motivational strategies and collaboration on the part of her team.
“I created incentives,” Heather explained. “If individual team members met certain goals, then they had an opportunity to get a prize: an accessory bag, things to give away to hosts, a gift card… I used an app called Fund-o-Meter that would show us how much we had done in sales for that month as a team and how much farther we needed to go.
“I would post almost daily so we could celebrate our wins.”
Heather really understands that it takes a group effort to reach the goal, and she did a great job motivating and acknowledging her team (who named themselves Wine Not?) along the way.
Final Thoughts
When asked if she had any advice for incoming consultants, Heather said, “It’s a great time to be part of WineShop at Home. Some of the other direct sales groups have 18,000+ people at their convention alone, and thousands more consultants. We have right around 1,000 active consultants.”
“If you put that into perspective, there is so much growth opportunity. Just being aware of the potential of what WineShop can bring you is so important. Sometimes we limit ourselves, but if you truly like the products and the people, why not give it a chance?”
You never know where it may lead! Six months from now, it could be YOU earning team leader.
Thanks so much, Heather!
