Welcome back from conference and an entirely new year for WineShop at Home! If you’ve been thinking that in the last year you didn’t give your business your best shot, I have good news for you: everything was set back to “zero” when conference ended.
Think of September 2015 as your January 1. This is your new year as a WineShop consultant, and you get to make new resolutions. Whatever happened last year is wiped clean and you get to start fresh. What a great feeling!
Connect with Your ‘Why’
Each of us has a unique and very personal reason for becoming a WineShop at Home consultant. Members of my team have dreams about financial freedom, they’re possibly putting themselves or a child through school or working toward finally buying a house. Some of my strongest leaders just needed something for THEM.
What is your “Why”?
Connecting with your reason for starting this business in the first place will get you through the year. And yes, there will always be moments where things feel challenging – that’s just how life is. Knowing WHY you want to be successful will be your fuel for actually becoming successful.
Here’s the truth: people are going to be successful at this. This company is growing. As of August 2015, my team has already done 15% more this year than last year.
Do you want to be part of this exciting new growth? It’s going to happen with or without you, so you may as well hop on board!
Top Leaders Have to Work for It, Too
In a business like WineShop at Home, it’s easy to look at the top earners and think, “Oh, it’s easy for her. She has a huge team so of course she’s going to do well.”
Don’t think for a minute that the top leaders you watch have it made in the shade!
In fact, I’ll pull back the curtain a bit and share some insight into my own challenges with the business. The truth is, I hate calling for sales and bookings. I just hate it. It’s uncomfortable, and I avoid it whenever I can. Once I’m at the tasting I love it and I totally connect with why I do this, but when I let myself get behind, it’s hard to crawl back into consistency.
Even though I’ve been around WineShop for a while, I still occasionally have crappy months. In July I had a really slow month because I didn’t want to pick up the phone and get people to host tastings; I wasn’t focused. I was distracted and in the end I was grateful for a few good friends and customers who needed wine because that was about the only way I was going to make my numbers! The truth is, I didn’t do the work.
Moral of the story? To be successful, we all have to do things that are uncomfortable or intimidating for us. In my experience, the people who are willing to take the bull by the horns and put their nose to the grindstone are the ones who really see the huge rewards.
Create a Plan for the New Year
This business is so much more successful when you understand your ‘Why,’ you pinpoint areas that need work and you focus on meeting your goals.
My invitation to you is to embrace the new WineShop year. The slate is clear and you get to start all over. Remember, you started this business for a specific reason – and no matter what happened last year, if that reason is still there, you absolutely can reach your goals and see the success that you want.
We’re here to help you succeed. Use the resources WineShop offers and tackle your goals headlong; this year, let’s go for “no regrets!”

Thanks, Diane, for your words of encouragement. Asking for the “why” I entered the business is actually a pretty “wise” question to ask. It’s the challenge of honing new skills, being responsible for my own success, and making things happen. And let’s not forget the WSAH family and the excellent product I sell!
