Every year we set New Years’ Resolutions. And every year most of them end up forgotten, crumpled and tossed in the trash.
Can you relate?
Here’s my theory on that: how could we possibly succeed at making ourselves better people when we set boring, difficult and totally repelling resolutions!? I mean seriously!
No one wants to “give up chocolate” or “stop swearing” or “exercise every day for an hour”. I mean, yikes! So this year for your business, I propose some New Years’ Resolutions that you’ll actually think are fun.
And you know what? They’ll also help you make more money. Imagine that.
Resolution #1: Keep in Touch with your Wine Club Members
I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “Diane, that’s hard. Picking up the phone is scary and people don’t want to hear from me.”
Wrong! Let’s reframe this resolution so that you can see how fun it really is to stay in touch with the people who bring you passive income every month. First of all, if people don’t want to talk to you they won’t answer the phone. Simple as that.
Second of all, remember that you once hung out with these Wine Club members at a tasting and you had a lot of fun! They like wine, you like wine! These people have a lot in common with you, and if you pick up the phone and say, “Hello Diane, what’d you think of this month’s Wine Club picks?” That will start a great conversation that I can promise will lead to a better and longer-lasting relationship. The picked you! Now, call them, start a little group for just them and enjoy wine together!!
Oh, and third of all: if you’re a wine consultant and you’re not a member of Wine Club you need to join ASAP.
Resolution #2: Find a Social Wine Event Every Month
I don’t mean a tasting that you’re leading. I’m talking about attending a social, wine-based event once per month where you get to be the one that has a good time and socializes!
Some ideas are to find a tasting room or wine store to sip wine (no, this isn’t cheating, it’s RESEARCH!!) or, or host your own wine night with friends. Get out there, expand your social circle and taste some new wines that maybe you haven’t had before. WINE IS SOCIAL!
Chances are, you’ll meet people in your area who also like wine (who knew!?), and you never know where that may lead! Hello, more tastings on the books for 2017!
By the way, your direct sales team meeting also counts as a “social wine event.” But it only counts if you’re pushing your comfort zone, because you and I both know that the only way to grow your business is to push past those boundaries.
Even when you don’t want to go out, just do it. It’s your job. You got this.
Resolution #3: Attend at Least 2 Other Consultants Tastings
We can often get stuck in a rut of saying and doing the same things over and over and over again. Sometimes this is all fine and dandy, but other times it can get a little repetitive.
Hint: if even you are feeling tired of your same old routine, it’s time to try something new.
I encourage consultants to assist at least one other tasting every year. Why? Because when you see how other people do it, you’ll get new ideas, learn new tips and tricks, and generally have a better grasp of how our industry works. You know what’s also a good idea? Host for another direct sales consultant. Seriously, it’s important. It reminds you of what our hosts do, teaches you a few new things and might show you areas where you can improve.
So there you have it – three New Years’ Resolutions that actually sound like fun! Will you take on any of these ideas in 2017? If so, I want to hear about it. Leave a comment below or hit me up on Facebook to share your ideas.
