When I started working with WineShop at Home over 12 years ago, I didn’t have an upline because there were no uplines. Despite the fact that we were figuring it out for the first time alone, I was incredibly successful and I’ve built an entire career with this company.
These days when you join as a consultant, you’ll join a team and you’ll have a team leader who hopefully will guide you down the path of success. A strong mentor combined with the incredible training WineShop now offers its consultants should equal a lucrative business as a WineShop at Home consultant.
So… does it matter who you join with?
Don’t Waste Time Reinventing the Wheel
I’m not writing this post because I think everyone has to join with me, though I love personally recruiting new people (it’s really fun training a new consultant and watching them bust through milestones).
Here’s what I am saying: if you want to take your business seriously and really build a significant income, you should either join with someone who has done just that or who is closely connected to a leader who has done just that.
Think of it this way. If you were an athlete like Tiger Woods and you wanted to win the PGA tour, you wouldn’t work with the local putting coach. No way! You’d seek out the very best coach – someone who has previously coached golfers to win tournaments – and work closely with him or her to refine your technique so you could go the distance.
It’s the same when it comes to WineShop at Home.
Who you join with matters. You want connections to top leaders, you want insights into their training and you want to be able to pull from their experience. It can make a world of difference.
Get the Most Out of Your Training
If you’re already a WineShop at Home consultant and you’re not happy with your upline, please don’t come to me asking to change teams. No can do. I’ve already proven you don’t have to be on a certin team to “be successful.”
What we can do is look at some things you can do to really get the most out of the leaders you are connected to and the training WineShop at Home has to offer.
- Ask your upline what you’re doing wrong. It can be really tough to ask for critical feedback – and even harder to hear what your leader might have to say. People rarely have the guts to straight up ask me where their strengths and weaknesses lie, but when they do ask for feedback and integrate my suggestions, their businesses do so much better! Schedule a time to chat with your team leader and ask the tough questions. Trust me, I ask my coach the same question and sometimes she makes me cringe.
- Take advantage of WineShop’s training. Show up to our annual convention. Attend the phone calls and webinars that WineShop has made available. And then, do the thing that’s the hardest: put your knowledge to work! Yes, that’s right – actually implement the information that you’ve received from the training. It can be tough!
- Look critically at your business. If you take a birds’ eye view of your business, where do you think you could do better? In booking tastings? In preparing your hosts so they don’t cancel at the last minute? In closing the sale at the end of the night? It’s your job to grow and improve.
If you’re shopping around to find the team leader that’s the best fit for you, good job! I’m happy to hop on the phone with you and find out if we’re a fit. If not, no sweat because chances are I might KNOW the perfect fit for you!
