Watching new consultants dive into the business and experience success is one of my favorite parts of the job. This week I’m putting the WineShop spotlight on Sarah Ross, who jumped in right before 2017 Convention and has wowed us all with her determination and focus; in less than 6 months she’s already been promoted to senior wine consultant.
Here’s some insight into her approach.
Diane Nozik reached out to me about WineShop at Home not long after I resigned from a 16-year-long stint with another direct sales company in a different industry.
To be honest, I’ve never really done anything business-wise outside of direct sales. With my previous company I worked my way up the ladder: I was a director with them, I had the company car, the whole she-bang. In other words… I know the direct sales methodology very well, which was a huge advantage coming into WineShop at Home.
All that said, I surprised even myself with how quickly and enthusiastically I jumped into a career path with WineShop at Home. When I first connected with Diane, she said, “Hey, I’m about to go to Las Vegas for our 2017 national convention. Would you like to meet me there?”
And would you believe that I did!?
Why I Chose WineShop at Home
It was definitely a risk for me to pick up and head to Las Vegas without knowing too much about WineShop at Home. I didn’t even know if I really wanted to join! But when it came down to it, I was left with one question: What have I got to lose?
It didn’t take much time in Las Vegas for me to realize that there’s something really special about WineShop at Home. I fell in love with the people, the products and the culture.
From there, it was a no-brainer. My gut told me a couple things that convinced me I was headed in the right direction: first, wine is a consumable, meaning that people will need and want it over and over and over again.
Second, I felt that I was getting in on a ground-floor opportunity. The business has been around long enough that they’ve sorted out most of the kinks, but WineShop is new to my state. What an opportunity to get in early!
Finally, and to put it bluntly… who doesn’t love wine!?
My WineShop Strategy
A couple things made my personal WineShop journey a little more challenging.
Since WineShop is new to my state – a wonderful bonus for me in the long run – it posed a challenge in the short run. I didn’t have anybody nearby to show me what a tasting is supposed to be like. This meant that I was pushed to put all the online tools and DVDs to use. Thanks to all the training materials WineShop provides, I was able to watch top people in the company lead tastings, observe their different styles and think about what my personal style would be like.
After soaking in all this new content, I decided to start off strong with a huge launch tasting. I set it up in my first week of being in business and invited my closest friends. My intention was to take advantage of the Rich Rewards program, which is designed specially for new consultants. I followed that program to a T and it worked beautifully (not to mention that I earned wine, stemware and decanters almost right away).
The bottom line is that I used the tools WineShop provides all its consultants. I studied the materials, I took them very seriously, and that’s how I’ve become a senior wine consultant in the first month of being in business.
I’m so proud to be part of a company that has such a well thought out sales strategy and so much support for the consultants. It makes a huge difference.
I personally plan to continue to grow my business and keep moving up the ladder as I have been. So far, I’ve received a promotion every other month, and that’s really fun! I’m feeling that. I look forward to getting to the top, and right now I have my eyes trained on the 2019 company incentive trip to Vienna, Austria.
Thanks so much, Sarah! We’re really proud of the hard work you’ve put into the business and fully expect to see you in Europe come January 2019.
