Working in the wine industry comes with many perks and benefits, but I’ve noticed that a lot of our consultants don’t take full advantage of them!
That tragedy ends today, my winos. Check out some of these little-known perks to maximize your WineShop at Home experience (you can thank me later).
Score Discounted and *Free* Tastings
If you live in an area of the country that boasts wineries, you can use your status as a wine consultant to get discounts—and in some cases, even free—wine tastings. Depending on the individual winery’s policies, they may also offer 20-40% off your purchase if you buy directly from their facility.
And by the way: you should take advantage of this. If you’re sitting there thinking, “But, Diane, why would I give business to a competitor?” you’ve got it all wrong.
We want to support the wine industry, remember?
That’s the beautiful thing about WineShop at Home: wine is an ultra-consumable, which means that our customers (and let’s face it, we are our own best customer) need to purchase wine over and over and over again. There’s no real danger that we’ll be driven out of business by other wineries. In fact, when more wine sells across the industry it means that more people are enjoying it, thinking about it, experimenting with it, and expanding their palates. And that’s great for us. Plus you can learn amazing stuff watching how others do a wine tasting.
Enjoy a Tax Break (Maybe)
Whenever I talk about this I have to be careful to note that I am not a tax professional. However, in some (cough*many*cough) cases you can get a tax deduction on all your wine-related purchases.
Why? Because you’re in the wine industry, and every time you taste wine it counts as this little thing called research and development. Yup. When you purchase a bottle of wine from BevMo—not sure why you’d do that but whatever—you’re technically researching the competition, expanding your taste for wine and building your expertise in the industry.
Like I said: check with your tax professional. But I bet you’ll be happy with what she tells you.
Explore Hidden Networking Opportunities
You never know who may sit next to you in a tasting room (where you’re enjoying your discounted tasting thanks to your wine industry status). You might plunk down next to a soon-to-be-empty nester who wants a new, fun side job in the wine industry now that she has more time. You just never know!
To be clear, I’m NOT saying you should go to wineries with the intention of poaching their employees, okay?
I AM saying that, hey, people tend to get chatty when they’re enjoying wine and you just never know who you’ll run into while you enjoy your WineShop at Home industry benefits. Just sayin’.
