If you got started as a WineShop at Home consultant and didn’t see success right away, this is the article for you. Because today I have a truth to share with you: It’s the very simple fact that everyone will fail at some point on their WineShop at Home journey.
Everyone.
Usually most of these “failures” come at the beginning of a new career. And yes, I purposefully put the word failure in quotations because the truth is that even your worst, most embarrassing “fail” isn’t really a fail – it’s just you taking one step closer to success.
Is that too touchy-feely? Well, it’s the truth – and I have even more to say on this topic, so read on!
This Business is Hard
Our business is hard. It can be rough to learn how to be a salesperson, but heck, what business isn’t hard in one way or another? In fact, if you had a job that wasn’t hard at all and didn’t push you, you’d probably get bored and complain about that! (I know I would…)
It’s important for the more seasoned WineShop at Home pros to remember how intimidating it can be to walk into a home tasting when you’re a newbie. You don’t know the people, the group dynamics might be off, you may lose control because people are drinking… look, I get it. This job is part entertainer and part facilitator.
It takes a lot of energy. It’s not going to come easy to everybody. It’s not the most simple.
But here’s the truth: if you keep moving forward despite a “bad” tasting where you mispronounced the wine or felt awkward when a wine snob made you feel stupid, you will see results. Every “failure” is an opportunity to learn, grow, and get better.
You will get where You are Going
It used to surprise me how often new consultants would say things to me like, “Oh, but you’re Diane Nozik, I bet you never deal with this issue…”
That is SO not the case! I’ve been in this business over a decade, and I have dealt with EVERY issue! I’ve been embarrassed by wine snobs, I’ve brought the wrong wine, I’ve charged the wrong cards, I’ve dropped a bottle of wine and totally broke it, I’ve gone to the wrong house, I’ve forgotten to even ATTEND ONCE! I’v made countless faux pas and I could go on and on and on about the personal challenges I’ve cried, yelled and pushed through to get where I am today.
And it all paid off.
All of us – all of us – will deal with these challenges. You are not a unique “failure” or a unique success. If you can work through the challenges and keep your eyes trained on the ultimate prize, a lifestyle that provides extra income for your family and an incredible community, you will get where you are going. The key is keep asking and keep going!
Keep at it because it’s worth it!
