Even though we’re just now starting to get our Halloween costumes together, don’t be fooled: the winter holidays are right around the corner! Before you know it, we’ll all be drenched in red wine (hopefully), humming holiday tunes (yay!) and wearing our ugliest Christmas sweaters (unfortunately).
S.O.S. if you haven’t started planning for the holidays – don’t worry, even if autumn has been so action-packed that you forgot to set aside time for holiday planning, I’ve got you covered.
One thing I dread during this time of year is forgetting to get a gift for someone important. So, I’ve made a list of people who I’m planning to give or send a bottle of wine (or two).
Don’t forget end-of-the-year goodies for the following important people in your life…
Your Hairdresser.
Hey, she works hard! Can you imagine being on your feet all day, every day? They make it look easy, but the truth is that those are grueling days. Give your hairdresser some love and let her kick back with a bottle of WineShop wine this holiday season. Throw in a Wine Glass writer so he or she can write who gifted her the different bottles of wine to keep track.
Your Kid’s Teachers.
Besides moms, I really don’t think there’s anyone in the world who deserves wine more than teachers. A room full of 6-year-olds all day long? No, thank you! I mean, they’re super cute, but only for like 10 minutes. Teachers are so important but so often get overlooked during the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Show the teachers in your life that you “get it” and you want them to know how grateful you are for their hard work. Trust me, they’ll appreciate it more than more fancy lotion!
Your Boss and Coworkers.
Sure, you might not hang out with them after hours, but you know that some (or all!) of the people in your professional life will be dealing with crazy family members coming into town for the holidays. A bottle of wine can go a long way toward easing family tensions… *hint hint*
Your Friends.
I mean, duh.
Your Doctors and/or Dentist.
Many insurance companies (especially dental) offer benefits that expire at the end of the year, which means that doctors and dentists often get slammed around the holidays with people who put off seeing them through the year. These folks are b-u-s-y in November and December! If you have a holiday appointment, do the right thing: help them unwind at the end of the day but don’t forget the staff at the front. They deserve more love.
Your Personal Trainer.
Yeah, yeah, he’s (or in my case SHE) is super healthy most of the year but he’ll be touched when you surprise him with a bottle of vino. (And if he really truly is “too healthy” to drink wine, he can just pretend to be happy and re-gift it to someone else, capisce?)
Your Trash Men.
I know! You probably never would have thought about them, but every year I put a 12-pack of beer out on my trash cans with a big bow on it and they love it. Okay, it’s not wine, but I happen to know that my guys prefer beer. Don’t forget about them!
Your UPS, FedEx and Mail Delivery People.
These people work so dang hard during the holidays. Not only are there so many packages going to and fro, but it’s also cold! No matter the weather, the mail still gets delivered, and package carriers never stop. I always give my delivery people a bottle of wine when I see them, and during the holidays I put out a snack basket for them on my porch. This way, they can drop by my house during a long shift and pick up a bottle of water and a snack if they need to. They love feeling appreciated.
So, How Much Wine Do You Need?
I believe that every household should have 2 full cases of wine headed into the holidays. Not only can you gift it to the people I listed above, but there’s a good chance you’ll get invited to last minute cookie swaps, holiday soirees or receive an unexpected gift from someone you didn’t shop for (eep!).
The holidays are a crazy time of year, yes, but it’s also a time to pause and reflect on the wonderful people in our lives. Think about the people who don’t always get holidays gifts or bonuses at the end of the year. I promise you that those folks will be the most grateful and touched when you show them you’ve been thinking of them.
This year, show the people in your life that they really matter to you! If you place an order after reading this article, I’ll send you a packet of holiday wine glass writers so you can personalize your gift with a special message and a set of organza bags so your spare bottle of wine in the truck is always gift ready!
