It’s that time of year again… WineShop at Home’s annual convention is just around the corner and many of us are hustling and bustling to prepare for this annual, business-altering event!
(Side note: If you’re still on the fence about attending Convention, you must read this blog post.
This year we’re holding the event at the stunning Green Valley Ranch Resort just outside of the Vegas strip… and I thought I’d do you a little favor to help your trip preparation go a more smoothly.
I wrote you a packing list!
Obviously, this is not a complete packing list, but these are some goodies that you should definitely remember to bring along…
Bathing Suit & Flip Flops & Sun Hat
Yes, that’s right! Even though this is a work trip, we’re still visiting a plush resort with palm trees, sunshine and plenty of beautiful, sparkling swimming pools. If you do your planning right and come in a day early to rest and relax you might even catch me poolside!
Sweater & Comfortable Shoes
I still don’t understand how no woman or man has ever figured out how to properly heat and cool a convention hall. Doesn’t it seem like you’re either boiling hot or freezing cold!? Keep a sweater handy – you won’t regret it! – as well as bring comfortable shoes for long walks down the hall.
Patience
Yes, okay, here’s another strange one: how is it that no architect has figured out that the women’s restroom should always, always, always be twice as big as the men’s? I don’t know. But just in case, I am prepared to wait.
Secret tip: one thing I like to do is always use the farthest restroom from the convention hall on the breaks. This way I get a little more exercise and a mental break – trust me, the conference will jam your brain full of incredibly useful business tips and tricks, so you’ll want to have a few minutes to yourself between sessions to process everything.
Black Tie Gown or Tux
Honestly, I think there just aren’t enough opportunities to get dressed up in this day and age… but that’s not the case at Convention! Bring your pretty dress or suit/tux and some nice jewelry for our evening cocktail gala! One of my favorite places to rent nice dresses (so I don’t have to buy a new one each time) is Rent the Runway.
Pajamas
Convention is like one big slumber party, and chances are you’ll find yourself running to a buddy’s room or the snack machine late at night. I suggest bringing some cute pj’s that you feel comfortable wearing in the halls! You might even find yourself doing a progressive tasting from room to room!
Water Bottle & Vitamins
Hydration is key for more than one reason: first, Vegas is in the middle of the desert and it’s very dry. You’ll find yourself feeling parched more quickly that you would in most parts of the country. Second, we’re drinking wine, baby! Third, Convention is famous for its late nights and long, high-energy days, making lots of water and vitamins a priority. You’ll want to stay as refreshed as possible during the weekend. Oh, don’t forget the Advil!
Ear Plugs & Sleep Mask
I find these two things incredibly handy when I stay in hotels, but especially if I’ve decided to bunk up with a roommate. You never know when someone might surprise you with their sleep talking or late night snoring!
If you bring wine…
Heads up, if you’re planning to bring wine, checking one of WineShop’s half cases on the plane is totally safe (I do it all the time successfully). However – if you’re planning to ship it, please note that the hotel cannot receive wine. Check with your director to see what you should do. I actually offer a pick up service for my immediate team just to help them out. See, I am a FULL SERVICE leader. ?
Honestly, this conference is going to be really incredible: informative, fun, and jam-packed with the type of training that will change your business for the better.
I can’t wait to see you there – and please don’t be shy about coming up, introducing yourself and saying hello!
