Believe me when I say that the holidays are the best time of year to host a pop-in tasting! People are so busy and stressed out during the holidays, that (trust me) they’re aching for an opportunity to kick back and relax a bit.
A pop-in tasting is exactly what they need.
Essentially, a pop-in tasting is just what it sounds like: you set up shop at your home or office (people go crazy over 4 pm office tastings!), do a little mini-wine tasting, and bada-bing, bada-boom, that’s it!
Your friends and co-workers will finish the day having socialized just enough, drank juuuuuust enough wine for the afternoon, and checked a whole lotta holiday shopping off their list.
What’s not to love?
Great Ideas for Pop-In Tastings
The best part about pop-in tastings is that they’re easy, they’re quick and people don’t feel obligated to stay for hours and hours. Here are some of my favorite ideas you can play with to really get into the holiday spirit…
Office Happy Hour
I touched on this earlier – but it really is a hit! It’s a blast to close the office a touch early and invite your co-workers to try some new wine for an hour or so. Besides getting the chance to bond with your fellow employees, people are usually very grateful for a chance to kick back a bit.
Pair the Tasting with a Cookie Swap
I’ve heard of consultants that also do a cookie swap with their pop-in tasting. Fun! Here’s how it works: everybody brings their favorite home made cookies and gets to mix and match. So you won’t get stuck with 5-dozen chocolate chip cookies… instead, you take home Paula’s sugar cookies, Denise’s Mexican wedding cookies, and Anderson’s peanut butter thumb print cookies.
Combo Tastings
Know a friend who sells Mary Kay or Stella&Dot? It can be a lot of fun to buddy up with another direct seller from a non-competing company… and trust me, he or she will be glad to partner with the company that sells wine! Sip and shop, my friends! There are some strategies to making this successful but it can be done.
Daytime Tastings
When the weather is cooler, people love donning their cozy winter sweaters and stopping by for an afternoon wine tasting between shopping and preparing for the in-laws. Help them relax by pouring some bold reds and sharing a smile!
Remember, when it comes to pop-in tastings, the emphasis is on quick and simple. Don’t get caught up in making it a perfect, hours-long ordeal – the whole point is that it can be easy, breezy, fun!
