There couldn’t be a better time to sell wine. Wine is trendy, there are tons of great bottles out there and the market is expanding with the addition of younger consumers.
According to a recent article posted on Fox Business, “The Millennial generation, which includes the youngest legal drinkers, is consuming more wine than previous generations when they turned 21, and the industry is taking note.”
Wine is Ultra-Consumable
I don’t care how consumable all those vitamin companies tell you their products are. Nothing is more consumable – or giftable – than wine.
If you’re selling candles or cosmetics, chances are good that your whole house is full of those products. When people come over and see your stockpile, they’re thinking, “Oh my God, there’s no way I want to get into that business!”
Wine is the only direct sales product that it is socially acceptable to hoard. If you’re the wine lady and your cellar is stocked with bottles, perhaps our Everyday Wines, everyone wants to be your friend!
Wine Appeals to Men Just as Much as It Does Women
Face it: the average husband doesn’t want to spend an evening getting a Mary Kay facial. We say, include the men! With Wine Shop at Home, you can do a girls’ nights just as easily as a couples’ nights where husbands get to tag along (and they’ll actually want to).
We see husbands eagerly jumping in to help their wives throw wine tasting parties. After all, who doesn’t enjoy an evening of wine, laughter, friends, good snacks, and fun? That’s the beauty of Wine Shop at Home: it’s a business your partner can support, and might even join in!
Wine Makes a Great Corporate Gift
Once you’re a Wine Shop at Home consultant, you can also market our wine to businesses through custom labeling and gift baskets. This is a whole market that is really not open to you if you’re selling handbags or jewelry. We have consultants whose corporate clients regularly purchase thousands of dollars worth of holiday gifts. Not bad! One of my top leaders, Managing Director Jennifer O’Leary, paid for her family’s dream trip to Disney World… with one corporate sale!
Wine Shop at Home is Small
Most direct sales companies you’ve heard of are large. For example, The Pampered Chef, Mary Kay and Thirty-One Gifts have tens of thousands of consultants nationwide. Wine Shop at Home has just a few thousand. Many states have just a couple dozen active consultants, yet the market for wine is HUGE!
We’ve been in business long enough to be stable, but we’re small enough to give you unlimited growth potential. Imagine the possibilities for your personal business expansion!
Selling Wine Won’t Jeopardize Your Friendships
One of my friends just started selling Arbonne. They have a really great skincare line and I want to buy from her. The problem is that I already purchase my skincare products from a friend who sells for Rodan & Fields. In order to buy from one friend, I have to stop buying from the other because really, how much cleanser and eye cream can I really use? (Okay… maybe that’s not such a good example! What with two kids and a huge business to run, I could use all the eye cream I can get my hands on!)
Most people are going to go through 2-5 bottles of wine per week. That means they can buy from me once or twice a year and still support anther winery or buy from the neighborhood wine store.
You Don’t Need to be an Expert
So many direct sales businesses involve being an expert on the science of the products: you need to know exactly how that vitamin or eye cream is made and you feel like to you need prove why your company’s products are better than the ten thousand other options out there.
I don’t want to think about any of that. I want to pull the cork and pour. The wine we sell is so good that it can speak for itself!
Sure, there are some things that are special about our wines but I don’t need to be an oenophile in order to explain that to a consumer.
What’s the Worst That Can Happen?
Let’s say you decide to give this a try and after a few months, you realize it’s not a good fit for you. You get to keep all your wine, you can continue to buy (earning your commission on personal purchases) and you still get to say that you’re a wine industry professional.
If you’re interested in starting a consulting business, let’s talk. I’m actively searching for wine lovers who want to make more income on their own terms. Email me at diane@mywinelady.com to learn more.
