Touch your business every single day 5-6 days of the week.
Well, here we are, staring down the barrel of a new year. All over the country people will make New Years Resolutions to lose weight, make more money, eat healthier… you name it.
But if you’re a WineShop at Home consultant and you want to create a more lucrative, fun, successful business this year, all you have to do is this: Touch your business every single day for 5-6 days of the week.
Easy, right?
Book, Sell, Build
Truly, I can’t stress enough the incredible difference you will see in your business over the course of the year if you’ll just follow this one golden rule. And sure, some days you’ll have more time than others, but if you spent a minimum of 20 minutes a day on the basics of your business, you’ll look back at the end of the year and see a completely different business.
Book more tastings. Sell more wine. Build your team.
And yeah, 20 minutes a day will have an impact! Here’s what this looks like in practice: Let’s say I only have 20 minutes today to do something to move my business forward. I choose to do phone calls – one of the most effective, income-generating activities for a WineShop at Home consultant.
I’ll call up Allison, one of my customers, and say, “Hey, Allison, do you need a case of sparkling to get ready for Valentine’s Day?” She might say no, but she also might say yes! And she might even say, “You know, Diane, I’ve been meaning to book a tasting… what dates do you have coming up?”
Heads Up: Your Business Doesn’t Exist on Facebook
There’s a reason we see so many consultants advertising their business incessantly on Facebook and other social media accounts: it’s easy. Too easy.
Why is it easy? Because it’s low pressure… aka not as effective!
Your business cannot solely exist on Facebook or in your head. In your head means you “think” about business. All the things you “will” do or imagine yourself doing. On the days when you only have 20 minutes to work on your business, choose an activity that will actually move you forward: pick up the phone and call someone. Talk to someone in line at Starbucks. Follow up with someone you met at your sister’s husband’s nephew’s graduation.
Yeah! Do the scary things! That’s where you’ll see the most growth in your business, and that’s where the reward lives. I’ve said it before, sticking with the easy stuff will NOT bring you success. I am scared ALL THE TIME in my business and when I’m not uncomfortable, making mistakes and trying new things, guess what? I’m NOT growing.
10 Things You Can Do in 20 Minutes
Okay, I’ll make it really simple for you: here is a list of 10 things that will move your business forward even if you only have 20 minutes. My challenge to you is to do at least one of these things every day for the next month.
In 30 days you’ll have a completely different business.
- Call a Host. Got a tasting coming up? Call your host and check in with him or her. Most hosts cancel because the consultant doesn’t do a good job of checking in and offering support, so prevent a cancellation by staying in touch.
- Follow Up with a Potential Consultant. You probably have a few of these people on your list – folks who indicated they were interested in the business but people you haven’t followed up with yet. Give ‘em a call and find out what’s what!
- Check in with Your Wine Club Members. Sometimes even just a text will do, but reach out to your Wine Club Members! Tell them about a new wine, or ask if they’d like to upgrade.
- Call Someone Who Loves Wine… and ask them if they want to host a tasting.
- Attend a Tasting. Whether it’s a fellow WineShop consultant or a tasting at a local tasting room, it’s a great idea to “get out there” and meet more people who like wine. These are potentially your future hosts and team members.
- Educate Yourself. It’s never a bad idea to brush up on our upcoming wines, take an online class about direct sales, or practice your tasting introduction. Stay educated and stay up-to-date.
- Have a Glass of Wine. Bet you didn’t think this would be on the list! Some days the business just ain’t gonna happen, and the best you can do is enjoy a glass of WineShop at Home wine. More power to you! I’ve been there, too – just make sure “drinking a glass of wine” doesn’t become your ONLY daily business activity.
- Call Your Team. Check in. What are they struggling with? Where can you offer support? What wins can they share with you from the last month or so? Stay in touch with your team and keep them motivated.
- Call Your Upline. If you’re stuck in a rut, sometimes all it takes is a simple conversation with your upline for a little inspiration.
- Call Me! Don’t have an upline? I’m here for you! Over the last 11 years, I’ve seen it all – so give me a call if you’d like to talk shop, get some new ideas and shake things up a bit. I’m here for ya.
When you really boil things down, the only way to experience success in this business is to get out there and take some risks. Do some things that scare you. You’ll grow, and you’ll watch your business grow, too!
Remember: Touch your business every single day for 5-6 days of the week!
