Why do network marketers always have to get on stage and talk about the fancy cars, jets and houses they buy with their business? Why is it always about making a million dollars by selling their product?
I’m getting so sick of this hyped-up over-selling of network marketing!
Look, I get it, no one would ever work if it weren’t for the promise of making money and being able to support their family and lifestyle – yeah, I know that money = security, health, whatever.
But when you jack everyone up on this impossible promise (well, okay, it’s not “impossible” but it’s very unlikely) that they can make millions of dollars selling weight loss smoothies, guess what’s going to happen when 75% of your new consultants realize that they’re not making anything near what you promised?
They’re going to quit.
And it’s not fair, because networking marketing actually does have something solid, real and helpful to offer, but when you pump it up as a magic fix-all, you’re completely undercutting that promise.
WineShop at Home Offers the Promise of a Better Life
In reality, while it is possible to make mind-boggling amounts of money through direct selling, it’s a very small percentage of people who will actually go on to do it.
Instead of setting grossly unrealistic expectations for new consultants, let’s talk about something more concrete: the life-changing money that they CAN make in the business.
For some people, an extra $500 per month is life-changing. It means they can pay their bills or purchase the things they need without having to sacrifice something else. It means they can save a little or create a cushion of savings.
For others, an extra $1500 per month would mean paying off student loan debt or saving to travel the world like they always dreamed of. Maybe it means they get extra help at home or indulge in little luxuries like ahem, shoes.
For some women and men, an extra $3000-$10000 per month means they can leave their day job and be home with their kids.
And THOSE are things that can change lives in a profound way.
…Did you notice that I didn’t mention a Ferrari once in that whole section?
Create a Business that’s Meaningful to YOU
Somehow we’ve bought into this expectation that everyone in the world wants to live the high life, fly around on a private jet and own a yacht. Okay, sure, that’s not necessarily an experience I would turn down… but I’m happy with my life. I love my family, and I love my situation, and I don’t need to go out into the world and purchase three mansions in order to feel fulfilled.
My business fulfills exactly what is important to me and supports my lifestyle.
So, what is important to you? What would make a big difference in your life?
Everyone is different – and I reject the idea that your WineShop business is only successful if you’re able to quit your job and go skydiving over an active volcano just to see what it’s like. There are incredible opportunities that come with even earning just a couple hundred more dollars per month in your business.
Are you ready to take a grounded, realistic look at what the business can do to improve your life? For you, it might mean earning six figures and quitting your day job… or it might look like bringing in enough to start paying off debt more aggressively.
