After I did a string of very successful wine tastings in Florida in June, I sat down and looked at my numbers. Examining my sales and expenses, I realized that I was on track to break my personal record for most sales in a single month: if I could just sell $7500 of wine, I would have my best month in 11+ years of working with WineShop at Home.
I thought to myself, “Heck, why not just go for it?” . Okay, if I was going to be honest, at first I thought, “Um, no way, that is impossible!” but then guilt took over, what would I tell YOU if you cam to me and said that was your goal? I would say…. “GO for it! YOU can do it” so sigh, I had to take my own advice.
I decided that June would be a push month for me. I was going to really, really go for it – in more than one area of my life. I wanted to beat my best numbers for selling wine and also give myself a big push with regards to my fitness. Why just have one goal?? Maybe because I’m nuts.
After all… we’ve got this one life to live. What’s the point of coasting through, not really going after our goals? If there’s something you’ve been burning to achieve – what are you waiting for!?
Here’s what I did in June to make it an incredible month for me, and by extension, for my family and my WineShop team.
Getting Back on WineShop Track
If you’ve been following my blog at all, you know that things have been a little nutty in Nozikland for a while. My husband is active duty military, which means a lot of moves for us, and over the last year I’ve been relocating my family to a new state.
Not only relocating… but also purchasing a new house and pretty much remodeling the whole thing. It was crazy. THANKFULLY I have a fully stocked wine room. At times I called it the “safe room”.
Fortunately for me, my job as a WineShop at Home consultant allowed me the space to focus on my family life for a whole year without losing my job or an unreasonable amount of income. (If that sounds totally up your alley, click HERE and let’s talk about how WineShop could work for you.)
But even though I’m so grateful that my job allowed me this freedom, let’s just face the simple facts: my life has been spinning out of control for, like, a year and I really, really, REALLY wanted to get back to a normal schedule. It was time to take control back.
I know that it’s not possible to be the best team leader I can be until I am the best consultant I can be. That meant getting back to the basics of running a WineShop at Home business: bookings, sales and recruiting.
3 Simple Questions
If you’ve been off track in your business – or simply not seeing the results you want – the first thing to look at is your calendar, and that’s exactly what I did. I asked myself the following questions:
- Do I have a strong booking calendar (meaning, are there as many upcoming tastings on my calendar as I would like)?
- Have I made enough phone calls to generate outside orders of wine?
- Am I holding enough new recruit interviews?
It’s not like WineShop is a complicated, mysterious business to run – it’s not! Bookings, sales and recruiting. That’s it! When you do those things – and do them consistently – you’ll be on the right track.
(And by the way, as most of us know, diet and exercise work the same way. Eat well, exercise more, and drink lots of water. Simple, right? If you do those things you’ll probably lose weight!)
Look at the Metrics
I have a monthly chart that I use to make sure I’m actually doing the things I need to do to keep my business running (aka bookings, sales and recruiting. Yes, it really is that simple!). This way I can see easily if I’m meeting my goal of doing 12 interviews in the month, or selling $7500 worth of wine.
If you haven’t been tracking your metrics, check out my goal sheet by clicking Diane’s Goal Sheet.
My Results
It’s July now, and looking back, I’m so freaking glad I gave myself an extra push in June. I made my goal, by the way, and sold more than $7500 of wine! How cool is that?
I also kept my fitness promises. For a while in June I was doing two workouts a day, and yeah, I feel pretty amazing now! It was exactly what I needed to jumpstart my fitness plan and get back into the “groove” of taking really good care of myself and my body.
Look, 2017 is already half way over. Get focused! Have you met the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year? Are you on the right track, or is it time for some serious overhauling?
Don’t let 2017 pass you by.
